ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from Spanish Odeon (MOAL 115, thick Spanish flat-rim pressing, red/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features pianist Bella Siki’s magnificent presentation of Chopin’s 4 Ballades (No. 1 in G minor Op. 23, No. 2 in F Major Op. 38, No. 3 in A-flat Major Op. 47, and No. 4 in F minor Op. 52), all recorded in London during 27/28 April 1952.
Bela Siki whose recorded legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc. His playing is highly sculpted, resonant, and with a beautiful tone.
Incidentally, there are superb notes on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in Spanish only, by J.N. Pleyel.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is GOOD. There is chipping/wear to the spine, bumping/wear at corners, a small bit of writing to the front panel, and mild discoloration/ringwear to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, still very much a solid collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not CD silent, in general the playback is quite fine. However, those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
