Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please bear that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Well, chums despite my disclaimer (see above) this is actually a remarkably clean and tidy record.
A Thieving Ratbag in a dimly lit record-fair would describe it as "near-mint" but I'll just grade it as a very very very strong VG+++ or better.
There's not a mark on it, and it plays beautifully.
It is NOT a re-press, it's the real deal, Lucille.
It was recorded by JJ records (The Sir JJ Allstars have a label credit) and appeared in the UK and Jamaica in 1968, and is a great double-sider.
"Crime Don't Pay" is one of those early reggae Rude Boy songs ("You are too rough.. rougher than rough") and "Fun Galore" is NOT as you might have expected, a song about the Law regarding Fungi. It's a splendid floor-filler with some astonishing bass playing. The bass man has the same slightly-inaccurate-so-it-sounds-even-better technique that you hear on those priceless Rio records by The Rulers. The amp sounds the same as well, and you can almost hear the bolts rattling. Truly magnificent.
There is no original centre, but that don't matter a heap o' beans, and the label is clean and un-written upon.
Fill your metaphorical boots.
