Slaughter – The Wild Life (1992) Released in April 1992, The Wild Life is the second studio album by Slaughter, a glam metal/hard rock band that rose to prominence in the early 1990s. Coming off the success of their platinum debut Stick It to Ya (1990), the band leaned into a heavier, slightly more mature sound on The Wild Life—but still retained their signature mix of catchy hooks, guitar-driven anthems, and sleazy swagger.
While the musical tides were turning with the rise of grunge, Slaughter stayed loyal to the glam metal formula—though The Wild Life shows more melodic development, moodier textures, and a bit more grit. Produced by Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum, it was also self-recorded in their own studio, giving it a rawer, more organic feel compared to their debut.
Highlights include:
“The Wild Life” – the title track and lead single, a pounding, riff-heavy anthem that became a minor hit and got decent MTV rotation.
“Days Gone By” – a strong power ballad showcasing Mark Slaughter’s emotional range.
“Real Love” – a moody, blues-tinged ballad that stands out from typical glam ballads of the time.
“Streets of Broken Hearts” – a mid-tempo anthem drenched in melodic melancholy.
Although it didn’t achieve the same commercial success as their debut (partly due to the shifting musical climate), The Wild Life was still certified gold and remains a cult favorite among fans of late-era glam and melodic hard rock.
