The album fused diverse influences such as shoegazing, dream pop, grunge, classic rock, heavy metal and prog rock. The album debuted at number ten on the Billboard charts and sold over six million copies worldwide, cementing the group as a major force in the alternative rock movement.
Siamese Dream earned The Smashing Pumpkins their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The group was also nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal at the Grammy Awards of 1994. The album is often included in lists of the best albums of the 1990s with the Alternative Press having ranked it fourth on the list.
