Description

This is a superb copy of the most collectible issue by far in the Southern Journey series, Alan Lomax's opus of field recordings from the American south that he gathered in 1959-60. This key volume features some of the earliest mass-market tracks by Mississippi Fred McDowell, who soon rode the wave of the 1960's folk/blues explosion to wide acclaim. Other tracks on this album include a range of beautiful gospel and blues music. "God's Unchanging Hand" by Anderson Burton (and chorus) is especially moving.
Copies of other Southern Journey volumes come up now and again, but the significance of this release make it highly sought after, and it doesn't appear for sale very often, especially in this condition. An amazing album!
Sleeve VG only due to a split at the top of the back panel. See photo. This is not a tear in the board -- the two panels just became separated. Otherwise in great shape. Vinyl has very light marks, plays loud and clear with only subtle surface noise.
