CHANCE TO BUY INCREDIBLY RARE, WITHDRAWN STRANGLERS "BLACKMAIL" SLEEVE
I was given this single when my mother was working in the United Artists’ office (temping) when the Stranglers were just starting to get noticed. They had popped into the office after a recording session and had guessed correctly that my mother had children, they gave her the Peaches single but with the discontinued and now famous, ‘blackmail’ sleeve, to give to her then teenage son. It was said at the time that the band were not happy at their portrayal as a ‘boy band’. She was told that I should look after it as it would one day be very valuable – and they were right it is so valuable that it often gets mentioned. They also offered her a smoke of their ‘cigarette’ which was somewhat stronger than normal tobacco, but she declined their offer!
The sleeve is in mint condition as it has always been kept separate. I also have the original uncoloured single which has been played but is in excellent condition. However it is the sleeve that is incredibly rare as very few were released and it regularly sells for remarkably large sums of money (£800).
