"Railroad" by Time Machine b/w "Going Down Down Down"
PLAY 41 - 1972 - IRELAND
This is an extremely rare Irish only released 7" single from Mayo 3-piece Time Machine. The A side is an incredible cover of Status Quo's "Railroad" with another cover (Don Nix's "Going Down Down Down") on the flipside. A real collector's item, it almost never comes up for sale anywhere. It's the first of two singles released by the band on the "Play" record label and comes from a time when Irish acts like Thin Lizzy and Skid Row were really holding their own on the International music scene. Whether you call it Hard-rock, Psych-rock or Proto-metal; this record really is a barnstormer.
In terms of condition, there are some issues that I would like to highlight. The record is housed in a plain white paper sleeve (there was never a picture sleeve for this one). The Side A label is clean and free from tears or writing. The label on Side B has a light biro squiggle and a light felt tip X (see photos). Side A has a good few light scratches but it plays right through without skipping or jumping and once the song kicks in any surface noise is very much in the background. Unfortunately Side B is in slightly worse condition with a couple of deeper scratches that cause the record to jump twice (when played on my Technics 1210-MK2 turntable). So the story of this record really is a game of two halves (so to speak). Side A: Good+, Side B: Fair. I have made a recording of the tracks so that you can judge for yourself:
