Description
This is an auction for the Beach Boys original Surfin/ Luau 45 rpm single on the Candix label.
It is number 301 and shows it was distributed by ERA Record Sales, Inc.
The story behind this record: this was the first single I ever bought as a kid. I bought it from a small record store in Monrovia, CA. Back in the day, you carried your records around in a small case when you visited friends. In order to not get the records mixed up, you numbered them and put your name on them. That was great then, because you never lost any records or got them mixed up with someone else who might have had the same record. This was how the masking tape and the initials RW came to be on this label. Unfortunately, 40+ years later you wish you hadn't done that.
Anyway, the record was last played about 5 years ago. Both sides played fine, but it wasn't a completely clean sound. There was was some surface noise. But, at least then, there weren't any severe scratches or skips.
Thus, I've been pretty hard in grading this record. I did play it a lot when I was young, but I also took very good care of all of my records. I've graded it G+ to VG, even though it has the writing and tape on the label. The sleeve is the original brown sleeve the record came in and and has a 6" tear on one seam. Still, it has protected this record quite well for all of these years.
