Description
I am offering for auction Syd Barrett THE MADCAP LAUGHS.This is an original 1970 first pressing in stereo on the extremely rare and collectible Harvest label without the E.M.I.box.
The record and matrix numbers are; SHVL 765

Very earliest matrix numbers
This is a genuine first pressing.Only first pressings had no E.M.I.box and "The Gramophone Co.Ltd" text printed around the edge of the label.I believe the colour of the floorboards on the cover were a darker shade;which this cover would seem to verify.
This was Syd Barrett's first solo album following his break-up from Pink Floyd.There were many problems in the making of the recording owing to Syd's mental state; which you can hear in the studio and in the lyrics of some songs.With the help from David Gilmour,Roger Waters and Malcolm Jones the album was eventually completed.On reviewing it on his radio show John Peel remarked that he thought it was so good that it should be available to all on the National Health!
Vinyl Description Excellent ++
Visual inspection reveals overall surface is smooth and glossy with a mirror-like finish on heavyweight vinyl.Some minor paper scuffs which cannot be heard when record is playing.The record lies perfectly flat on the turntable and shows no visible warp when spinning.The labels are immaculate with no writing or marks.There are very few faint spindle traces around centre hole.Considering this record is thirty-eight years old it is in fantastic condition.
The audio quality is superb! Crystal clear sound from this first pressing.Virtually no crackle detected.I have played this record and found the audio to be faultless.No audible distortion over the full dynamic range.Stunning clarity and depth. It plays without sticking,jumping and there are no loud pops or clicks caused by scratches.I would say the play grade is near mint.It would be extremely difficult to find a copy to better this one.This is a MEGA RARE copy!

This is the first press gatefold cover by E.J.Day with laminated outer and plain black and white inner.No colour fading or signs of age.Outer cover has retained it's shine and gloss.Slight corner wear,no edge wear.No writing or marks.Spine is excellent and fully readable.Inner sleeve is the original poly-lined in excellent condition.
