TEAR GAS - self titled

A highly presentable copy, with gleaming vinyl and superb audio reproduction, of this extremely rare & sought after 1970 UK 1st press prog rock gem with earliest 1G/1G vinyl matrix stampers on the highly collectable silver & red Regal Zonophone record label, STEREO, SLRZ 1021

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  YCARX 81 - 1  with stampers "1" and "G" at 4 o'clock and 10 o'clock respectively

Side 2   YCARX 82 - 3  with stampers "1" and "G" at 2 o'clock and 8 o'clock respectively

A lovely condition (EX at least) original copy of this 1971 UK "under the radar" (at time of release) prog rock gem with glossy jet black sheen & earliest 1G/1G matrix vinyl with just a few extremely light paper scuff marks on each side and a single very light 4cm and slightly more visible (when the vinyl is titled to the right angle in a bright light) surface hairline on side 2 - all non-feelable, purely superficial and only visible with close inspection under a bright light;     near perfect (EX+) condition labels - if you look very, very closely you may just be able to spot x2 small and extremely faint spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole - otherwise perfect, with the silver text upon the beautiful red/magenta smooth background, along with the silver and red text comprising the iconic REGAL ZONOPHONE logo, all in pristine condition;     nice condition (VG+ but closer to VG than EX) 1st press Garrod & Lofthouse non-laminated outer sleeve with firm edges, well defined right angled corners, firm opening sides with no feathering or fraying, firm 1st press "nipped ends" spine with all spine text intact, and all art work, photos, and text in great condition - there are some outer sleeve blemishes, however : there is some sporadic light scuffing on the top edge, the bottom edge has scuffing which is slightly more pronounced and continuous from the centre of the bottom edge to the bottom left corner, there is mild rubbing on each corner, a slight gash in the top left hand corner covering the "I" from "EMI" and also a very small area of a residual mark where a sticker was once located, a very thin white line vertical score on the front side just underneath the word "GAS" (see photo), some very mild ring wear on both sides (only visible in a good light and, again, when the cover is tilted at the right angle), and a very light non-obvious surface crease located at the top left corner on the reverse side;    comes with original plain white inner sleeve with correct "PATENT NO..." and "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" horizontal text and no splits, tears, edge fraying and only minimal age discolouration - there is some creasing towards the corners, however - and remaining fully functional (note that I always house the vinyl inside a brand new poly-lined inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original);     brilliant (EX+) audio quality with no sticks, jumps, repeats, skips, obvious clicks, interference or background crackle...simply great tone throughout. The tremendous stereo audio quality really is hard to fault...I just noticed a couple of very, very light (completely non-intrusive) background clicks towards the beginning of A2 (close inspection revealed no obvious reason), and there is just the hint of some very mild background crackle during the end of side 1 run-off - otherwise perfect!  This is prog combined with heavy rock with lots of amazing amazing guitar work - brilliant!

A true "under the radar" early 70's prog/rock gem. UK 1st pressings (especially with vinyl and audio quality in condition as impressive as this) are very hard to find. A special addition to any serious rock vinyl collection.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
