Undead is the second album by Ten Years After, recorded live at the small jazz club, Klooks Kleek, in London, May 1968.
This album set out to give listeners a real feel to what it was like to hear Ten Years After. Their eponymous first album was bluesy, but less emotional and passionate, and so the band decided to record the album live.
The result was a combination of blues, boogie and the sometimes remarkable jazz playing ability of the band members.
The approach of the band on this album remains unique in that it is a rock/blues approach to swing. And swing it does! Although the soloing remains almost exclusively in the pentatonic scale and adheres strictly to a basic 1/IV/V 12 bar blues (with no traditional jazz substitutions), the boys manage to pull off a confident and aggressive post bop feel.
This album became the introduction that many aspiring musicians used as a learning tool to explore beyond rock and pop boundaries and into more improvised styling
ALVIN LEE - guitar, vocals
CHICK CHURCHILL - keyboards
LEO LYONS - bass
RIC LEE - drums
Track Listing:
Side 1: I MAY BE WRONG, BUT I WON'T BE WRONG ALWAYS / WOODCHOPPER'S BALL
Side 2: SPIDER IN YOUR WEB / SUMMERTIME - SHANTUNG GARBAGE / I'M GOING HOME
LABELS: LIKE-NEW - CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO wear, NO marks/writing and only ONE or TWO of the lightest spindles - this copy has hardly ever been played
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces have their original DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN and are practically UNMARKED. The vinyl looks like new with just a little transfer marking from the plastic of the Decca inner sleeve from years of storage - this has NO major audio consequence
VINYL Audio: OUTSTANDING - CRYSTAL CLEAR, WARM, BEAUTIFULLY RICH and VIBRANT audio. Tremendously recorded and deeply atmospheric live album. On playback at a LOUD volume there are NO scratches, NO sticks/jumps, NO clicks or pops and barely surface noise (the aforementioned transfer marks cause maybe the slightest touch of surface noise on the quieter solos and in-between tracks but this is SO minor it really is hardly worth a mention and on a second play-through it reduced to virtual silence). The record absolutely SOUNDS SENSATIONAL throughout and it plays to the highest standard with NO groove-wear or distortion (its hardly been played). Graded MINT(-) for audio - BEAUTIFUL COPY
SLEEVE: The front laminated sleeve is in STUNNING, practically AS-NEW condition. The front laminate has a beautiful DEEP GLOSS with NO rubbing and only two light half-moon creases towards the opening edge. The edges and spine are SHARP with NO wear AT ALL and all spine text is CLEAR and BOLD. The unlaminated back is perfectly CLEAN and beautifully white. MINT(-)
