Irish indie rock band The Academic's studio album 'Sitting Pretty' is an album about navigating life in your 20s; the uncertainties and the ever-shifting sense of self. “It’s about the entrance into true adulthood and how that can alienate you from yourself, making you feel like you’re playing a supporting role in your own life,” the band explain. “In one moment feeling 100% certain about everything, only to become overwhelmed with feelings of aimlessness and lack of direction in the next.”Staying true to the idiosyncrasies that have cultivated their ever-growing fanbase however, The Academic persist in finding the fun and the romance within the transience of it all. “Ultimately it’s about finding your feet, feeling the weight of time passing on your shoulders, and trying to enjoy the good times and meaningful relationships along the way.”Pushing Up Daisies is the sound of a confident young band cutting loose. It’s a gritty return for a band who have a penchant for cramming more melody into their singles than most bands manage across a full album. The sound is direct and riotous – a band ready to announce themselves properly, far beyond the Irish neighbourhoods that already claim them as hometown heroes. Of the song, the band explain: “Pushing Up Daisies is our ode to insecurity and ego in equal measure,” the band say. “It tackles the hectic nature of our current circumstances. The ecstatic highs and the unbearable lows of life in you twenties.”These four boys from Mullingar step into album two with unshakable intent, having been on something of a journey of discovery since the success of their self-released debut, Tales From The Backseat which debuted at number 1 in Ireland. At the tail end of the Summer, they unleashed Don’t Take It Personally a song which, not unlike Pushing Up Daisies, puts the young masculine ego under the spotlight; in both its immovable heft and its frail fractures. Back in Mullingar, there’s long been a sense of when rather than if The Academic will become a serious concern outside of their home country, and become a band that excite and unite fans right across the globe. And whilst their self-released debut album shot straight to number one in their home country the band deliberately held their nerve before introducing their music further afield. It’s a strategy that is surely now destined to pay dividends.

This the rarest issue on splatter vinyl which was limited to just 500 copies... all the other copies on ebay are £30+.

MINT:

RECORD: PERFECT...AS NEW CONDITION, SO NO DETEORIATION IN THE SOUND QUALITY…bear in mind that not all ‘new’ LPs are Mint because of the quality of the pressing etc...also SEALED/UNPLAYED LPs should be Mint.

COVER: AS NEW CONDITION WITH NO OBVIOUS DEFECTS.

M-: RECORD: SLIGHTY WORSE THAN Mint, LP may have the odd surface mark due to removal from its sleeve etc…but should have minimal noise and is still in great condition.

COVER: SHOWS SIGNS OF BEING HANDLED WITH THE ODD CREASE/TINY BIT OF WEAR or a Mint cover with a deletion/cutout hole or notch.

EX: RECORD: MOST REGUARLY PLAYED LPs KEPT WITH CARE FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY...LP may play with more hiss/slight crackle but not louder than the music.

COVER: SLIGHTLY MORE WEAR/CREASING/BENDING even some very slight ring wear...or may be a M or M- cover with a tiny split seam or a tiny sticker tear, but still nice.

EX-: Record & Cover a bit worse than EX, but better than VG+.

VG+: RECORD: LP PLAYS WITH MORE NOISE DUE TO EITHER DIRT OR STRONGER SURFACE MARKS BUT NO BAD MARKS/SCRATCHES and is STILL IS IN A VERY LISTENABLE CONDITION though starting to affect the music to some extent.

COVER: HAS QUITE A LOT OF CEASING/BENDING often with FADING/RING WEAR/ STICKER TEARS/TEARS...or may be an EX cover with a split seam(s).

NOTE: Any buyers looking for reasonably nice playing records should avoid anything below VG+.

VG: Not exactly ‘Very Good’, an often-misinterpreted grade, most VG records I’ve bought have some obvious defects affecting the record and/or cover. RECORD: THE SOUND QUALITY OF IS AFFECTED BY SURFACE MARKS/ LESSER AUDIBLE MARKS/SCRATCHES or DIRT etc...but still plays through and is still in quite a REASONABLE condition for playing, though obviously affecting the music to a greater extent.

COVER: PLENTY OF CREASING/BENDING/FADING/RING WEAR but still in one piece.

G: LP still plays through but is very noisy due to scratches/dirt etc....but still not totally trashed!

COVER: AS VG BUT TORN and starting to fall apart.

F/P: LP is trashed...for ornament purposes only.

PLEASE NOTE GRADING IS SUBJECTIVE AND EVERYONE CAN HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION (for instance, some sellers don’t grade below VG). Myself, I think there should be an obvious difference between each grade.
