Swamp Oaf -- Swamp Oaf LP

Original 1989 US release on Stanton Park Records (catalog # SLED-002), with generic sleeve and loose artwork slat (not pasted on), hand-numbered #207/300 on the back.

Killer HEAVY psych/hard-rock LP by Boston power trio The Bags under one of their many aliases, Swamp Oaf. Way, way out of print and very hard to find, even in Boston. 300 numbered copies were put out in 1989 and then this album disappeared, never reissued on LP or CD.

This record is looser, more fuzz-guitar and more psychedelic than The Bags other material. The comparisons to Blue Cheer are spot on.

Byron Coley wrote about Swamp Oaf in Spin (February 1990): "This Boston trio (perhaps best known for their non-thug work under the name the Bags) have a sense of compositional burl most redolent of early/mid period Blue Cheer. The guitar quick-switches between ass-puddle wah-boom and overblown zorch-flash with Leigh Stevens-oid flair, and these guys don't get even close to the Zep cliche path most of their 'peers' are treading."

CONDITION: Cover NM / Vinyl MINT-   very close to new, back of artwork has the tiniest bit of foxing keeping it from MINT-; vinyl is very near absolutely pristine, this is an unplayed second copy I bought new when it was released.

Graded conservatively using Goldmine standards [G / G+ / VG / VG+ / NM / ]
grade only used if record is brand new.
