Fully laminated Cover - Printed by Garrod & Lofthouse International Ltd - The apple is aligned but according to The Beatles Collection site, these covers may have been produced at a similar date to the misaligned.
Information on Album Dates
Abbey Road, PCS 7088, stereo, September 26, 1969. Albums have full laminated cover without flaps on the back side. Covers were printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. The famous cover design was done by photographer Iain Macmillan. The initial covers have the green Apple logo out of alignment with the text and shifted to the left. The first version of the cover has a green tint. Later covers corrected this error and have the Apple logo aligned with the text. Possible both cover varieties have been produced at a similar date. The records were housed in black inner sleeves with a die-cut circular opening on one side to expose the Apple label.
Vinyl - First pressing, September 26, 1969. Dark green label with an image of an apple on side 1 and sliced apple on side 2. First label variation have “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines and small “33 1/3” text moved to the left side. Publishing year printed with small copyright symbol (P). The label does not have Her Majesty credit on the side 2. The labels are quite dark although the actual shade of green varies greatly among copies. Matrix number: Side 1: YEX 749-2; Side 2: YEX 750-1.
What is it that makes Abbey Road a masterpiece? Well, the breadth of the musical vision, the sheer scale of the band’s collective musical imagination, and the audacity of it all, at a time when The Beatles were coming to the end of their time together.
And then there are the two George Harrison masterpieces, “Here Comes the Sun”, started whilst George was sitting in Eric Clapton’s garden, and “Something”; both rank alongside the best songs the band ever recorded.
Prior to September 26, 1969, most people in the world were blissfully unaware that Abbey Road was the location of EMI’s London recording studios. Ironically, given the album’s title, not all of Abbey Road was recorded at Abbey Road, and, in truth, the title is as much about the street and the zebra crossing outside as it is about the studio itself.
But when all is said and done, the album is for many, the absolute pinnacle of the band’s achievements. All this, despite having been recorded as the band was breaking up amid internal strife and bitterness.
Condition
Vinyl – Very good to excellent condition, glossy black vinyl, plays great.
Cover – Very Good condition, a few little creases, some wear to spine.
Black Inner Sleeve – Very Good condition.
