Description
Up for sale is a very first stereo pressing of this iconic Beatles album. With this album in particular, the mono mix sounds rather dull and lifeless in a lot of places so the stereo version, being competently mixed and mastered (Unlike a lot of other Beatles stereo LPs of the time) is arguably the very best sounding version of this early Beatles album, and this first press cutting is one of my favourite examples of 1960s vinyl ever. It sounds rich, and warm throughout due to it's vacuum tube cutting, a loud and confident sound that exemplifies itself throughout every single track on the album, even the songs on the inner grooves still maintain this energy without any distortion that we normally associate with inner groove tracks and the music comes alive like I've never heard on any other format, or any cutting succeeding it. You could argue that these first pressings truly are the real sound of the Beatles!
Vinyl - VG - Unfortunately as you can see in photo 4, there is a nasty looking scuff that goes over multiple tracks on side 1. Luckily this does not cause any major distortions in the sound, such as clicks or pops. It is audible, but more of a bumping sound. It's easily drowned out by the music and despite the wear that these record surfaces have accumulated the grooves still sound just as good as this particular pressing always has! Side two doesn't have any major defects and if it weren't for this scuff I think I could easily grade this LP as VG+, there is surface noise in some quieter parts but the music is so alive and energetic that it quite literally distracts you from any flaws in the record! This isn't the best copy out there, but it's no slouch either!
Cover - G+ - Unfortunately the cover shows more wear, with creasing and lots of age/storage related wear. It's clear that this LP was quite enjoyed back in it's day but it's still holding together okay. There's some wear at the top and bottom of the spine that was once pinched and some ring wear on the back cover but the only major thing is the fact that the front flap is a little bit creased and protrudes outwards, I think this could be sorted out with a little TLC. The spine is no longer square, but luckily it's text is still clear and readable.
Unfortunately the original Emitex inner isn't included, but there is a good quality poly-lined replacement for it that's held up quite nicely
