To coincide with the 1977 release of the Beatles double-LP compilation, Love Songs, Capitol (U.S.A.) planned to issue a 45rpm single of Girl / You're Gonna Lose That Girl.
Plans for the single extended to a labelled test-pressing of Girl which had the stereo version on Side-A and the mono version on Side-B. Sleeves and labels for the single were printed ahead of the pressing of the planned release-edition 45.
For reasons unknown, Capitol abandoned the project prior to pressing the release version of the single, i.e. Girl / You're Gonna Lose That Girl.
The vinyl record offered in this auction is the original, and extremely rare, Girl-stereo/Girl-mono test pressing. The record is in EX condition, with a slight 'grazing' on a small portion of the 'stereo' side - which looks to me to be the result of the manufacturing process rather than needle or handling artefact. A partial fingerprint appears on the lead-in of one Side; this can be easily removed by gentle and careful cleaning (I have neglected to do the cleaning in case I inadvertantly damage the groove).
Both sides have 'MASTERED BY CAPITOL' indented in the run-out. Both sides have the Los Angeles record plant mint mark. The 'stereo' side has the code, 'S45-X45386 F3' etched into the run-out; the printed number '1' and what looks to be a etched signature initials (either one initial or two forming a single sig). The 'mono' side has a less pronounced etched code, the first letter is 'P', the second and third letters may be 'R' and 'O' (not sure though), the remainder of the code is '-8735-F1' (to me, the '7' looks more like a '9' but '7' would be the correct number). The printed number '1' also appears on this side, as does a sig. as per the 'stereo' side.
Both original sleeves (one that came with the vinyl + a spare), are in EX condition. No splits or tears to either. Minor rubbing of to bottom seam of one. Sleeves are quite common relative to the vinyl, the latter of which is exceedingly scarce indeed.
The printers-sheet of labels (three pairs) are NM. The sheet is sealed inside a plastic sleeve.
All-in-all this is an excellent and complete package for the Beatles-vinyl collector
