UK 1967 Original Mono Pressing

The majority of first pressings of MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR will have a familiar punched-out centre label ring. At the time of the first pressings a smaller amount of Type 2 were produced - this is where the centre was made solid on one or both of the records inside. Both of the records on this copy have an even more RARE solid centre as they have in addition close concentric rings pushed-in running around the centre groove ring to about halfway into the label giving it a 'dished look'. This is not a contract pressing as the EMI tax code and stamper codes are in the correct place. In the early to mid-sixties this indicated that the records were pressed on old EMI machines.

The Sleeve: Original Sleeve in Very Good condition

It is an original 1st press laminated Gatefold sleeve which is completely intact with some age related storage wear lifting only on the spine. The corners and edges are well defined and straight with only very minor shelf wear. Some light line creases, and mild record ring impressions on the reverse only.

The iconic photo on the front and back is glossy and have held original colours well. 

The record insertion slots attached to the edges are straight with no wear and intact, with the bottom fold over seams present and intact. Holds records tightly.

Has large MMT 1 and MONO on top right reverse in bold upper case letters.

The inlay booklet inside has all pages present and attached and undamaged or spoiled, all Tony Barrow text legible and all photos taken by John Kelly during filming still looking sharp and unblemished.

No stickers or handwriting or writing imprints anywhere on the sleeve or booklet.

This is a neat, clean and firm sleeve and also even includes the original blue lyrics sheet - this was usually discarded  as they tended to become loose, and so most copies won't include this sheet. This sheet is only in fair condition having become disattached and torn.

Inner Sleeve: Original inner sleeves are in fine condition. A couple of tiny tears on the perimeter of the window on a couple of the sides, and one edge seam has started to become loose. They still hold the records well, still offering good protection to the records.

The Vinyl: Very Good Plus Condition. There are no marks or scratches, being smooth to the touch all over and in normal light it is hard to see any imperfections. Turned under close bright light, as in the photos, there are some fine surface stylus hairlines in some areas on a couple of the sides - which are only a sign of the record having received a fair number of plays, and nothing obtrusive to the audio. The pressing shine is still present and there are no signs of groove wear.

The vinyl is clean, the record lays completely flat on the turntable.

Labels are Very Good Plus. Text is clear and bright, the perimeter area around the spindle location point has some light spindle wear but nothing bad and would be almost impossible to find none at all. There are very few feint spindle line traces to be seen. No handwriting or stickers or sticker residue. The text has held well, being complete and bright it contrasts well against the black background which has no fading.

Has the KT tax code embossed on sides 2 and 4

The Audio: Very Good Plus

The quality of the vinyl surfaces described above reflects in the audio quality - very near Excellent with a little acceptable lessening from the original audio quality of this now 50 years old EP. Both records play smoothly from start to end on both sides without interruption, with a few audible ticks on I Am The Walrus, but nothing that overcomes. Light static in the track changes and quieter parts but all tracks play with full bodied original bass and crisp and clear vocals and backing tracks. 

The Mono channeling is perfect with no hiss, or background noise. There are no major detractions such as pops, jumps, skips or sticks.

This is a collectible version of this 1st Mono Press! It is very playable with a good appearance and is packed with character and it's value can only increase over time.

VG+ = Better than Very Good: Obviously been played but no significant deterioration in sound quality despite light surface marks. Very little wear and tear on cover and contents, without any major defects.
VG = Very Good: Obviously been played many times but no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on cover or contents, without any major defects.
Gd+ = Better than Good: Sound quality has deteriorated but with no distortion. Light scratches and occasional mild scratch. Cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges but not spine splits or discoloration.
Gd = Good: Sound quality has noticably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion. Mild scratches. Cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration etc.
