Description: Stunning copy of the Original 1963 First Pressing vinyl MONO LP.

Please Please Me is the debut studio album by The Beatles - their first official L.P. release. For the ONLY time, the mono version was issued 6 weeks BEFORE the stereo version. This album contained the “A” and “B” sides of their first two singles, plus 10 new songs, all recorded in one incredible session at the E.M.I. Studios, Abbey Road.

Both Vinyl and Sleeve of this 1963 1st Press Beatles album are in impeccable condition. There is no damage, only slight age-wear to the Sleeve, and the Vinyl plays beautifully with no jumps pops or crackles during any tracks. The 'Mother Stampers' are early 1st press = 1 GD / 1H. This is a truly rare and amazing find in this condition.

FIRST PRESS INFO

First pressing. March 22, 1963. Matrix numbers: Side 1: XEX 421-1N; Side 2: XEX 422-1N.

The first pressing has Ernest J.Day & Co. front laminated cover, with large “mono” on the front. The photo credit for the front cover: “Photo Angus McBean” is printed in the lower right corner. The text starts at the end of “s” in “songs”.

The first pressing has black label with gold print and “Parlophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print. “Dick James Mus. Co” incorrect publishing credit for “I Saw Her Standing There”, “Misery”, “Do You Want To Know A Secret” & “There’s A Place”.

SLEEVE: EX

The Front Cover is in Excellent condition, having been extremely well kept by the previous owner since its release in 1963. There are a few minor creases predominantly along the bottom edge. All 4 corners are showing signs of age-wear, most notably on the top left and bottom right hand corners. The spine has as handful of very small nicks in, one being on the left spine between the words ‘Please’ and ‘Please’, however all writing remains legible / intact. The cover retains its shine, gloss and colour – see photos.

The Back Cover and flipback sleeve remains entirely intact. There is some slight discolouration which looks to be finger marks from where the Record has been taken in and out. Otherwise it is faultless.

In summary this original sleeve is a very rare and exceptional quality find.

VINYL: EX

Visual: Under the inspection of a 1055 lumens / 14 watt LED GLS bulb; there are many (100+) surface / hairline marks consistent with play. Side 1 has a significant ‘smudge’ mark measuring 1cm x 0.5cm over song 5 – Boys (see photos), however this in no way affects the sound. Both labels are in fantastic condition with just a few spindle marks from play. The gold lettering is vibrant and every word is legible. Tax Code MT can be clearly seen on Side 2. The record has not warped at all, it is perfectly straight / flat. Please refer to photos.

Audio: Exceptional audio throughout each track. 1 short medium-loud crackle can be heard between tracks ‘BOYS’ and ‘I LOVE YOU’. Very occasionally some light background static can be heard - the vast majority plays clean crisp and clear.

In summary this vinyl has been well looked after, both labels are exemplary, and the audio is near flawless.

INNER SLEEVE: VG

This Record is housed in a standard white paper EMI inner sleeve (patent #1,125,555. “Made In England”). The Use ‘Emitex’ inner sleeve was most likely inadvertently swapped with a later Beatles album’s inner sleeve within the same collection (patent #1,125,555. “Made In England” was used on ‘Let It Be’).

We mail everything using the BEST QUALITY, music industry standard packaging materials - sturdy cardboard record mailers with two added cardboard stiffeners for 12" LP's and 7" singles. We always remove the vinyl from the album cover and the original/ collectable inner sleeves (where present) to prevent damage to these during transit. During this time the record will be protected in a plain inner sleeve, in a plastic anti-static inner sleeve which doubles up as an album cover once it has arrived!

We pay to send your LP via Royal Mail Special Delivery – next working day delivery by 1pm. This service is guaranteed, tracked and signed for and includes insurance / compensation of up to £1,000.

GRADING SYSTEM

Mint (M)

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records marked as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent (EX)

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good (VG)

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Good (G)

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair (F)

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor (P)

The record will not play properly due to scratched, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing
