THE VINYL LP
- VISUAL - The subjective grade of 'good' is applicable to both sides of the LP on account of 'wear and tear' of the type(s) associated with a well-played record. The exposure levels of Pictures 7 & 8 have been exaggerated to facilitate accurate rendering of surface blemishes; naturally the vinyl is much blacker when viewed with naked eye.
- PLAYBACK - Despite subjective visual appearance, both sides play all the way through without sticks or jumps. Crackle is present throughout and ranges from near-inaudible to obtrusive. If you want a perfect listening experience, this LP is not for you.
NOTE : the vertical 'lines' or 'streaking' which can be seen on the scans of each 'side' of the LP is the result of the characteristics of my flatbed scanner (a cheap Mustek A3 scanner).
LABELS
See images 1 & 2 for scans of the labels of this record. The scans are true to the visual characteristics of the actual labels. Any artificial 'enhancing' of the labels (e.g. felt-tip marker 'colouring-in') was done by a previous owner. I do not interfere with labels of any of my records.
There is an 'MZT' tax-stamp on the side 1 label but unfortunately the code does not show very well on the scans. I can confirm the presence of the code to the naked eye but even then it is quite faint.
SLEEVE CONDITION
I have provided several images that illustrate the condition of the first-issue sleeve. While the front presents as 'very good', the same cannot be said of the back face which is marred by a variety of readily apparent blemishes. The issue of being an E.J. Day or a Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve is rendered academic by surface tearing which removes the publisher credit entirely from the lower backflap.
The all-important first-sleeve identifier, a precisely situated 'Angus McBean' photo credit, can be clearly seen in gallery image 6 (zoomable). For those who may not already be aware, a genuine first-issue PPM sleeve will have the capital 'P' of 'Photo:' in approximate vertical alignment with the second 's' of 'Songs'. In the majority of examples of this sleeve, the McBean credit will be visible when looking at the front of the sleeve; however, due to a printer-alignment issue, the main image in this sleeve is placed vertically lower so that the part of the picture with the McBean credit appears wrapped around the bottom seam.
