Description
Please Please Me, Parlophone, PMC 1202, 03.22.63, mono. The Beatles FIRST official L.P. release. For the ONLY time, the mono version was issued 6 weeks BEFORE the stereo version. This album contained the “A” and “B” sides of their first two singles, plus 10 new songs. All recorded in one incredible session at Abbey Road. The session lasted 16 hours ending with John Lennon’s famous version of “Twist And Shout” with his voice wrecked from the marathon session marveling George Martin who famously said “They longer they go on the better they get”!
John Lennon’s “Twist Amd Shout” recorded here for the first time is considered one of the greatest rock n roll recordings in history. It gives you chills!
This is the rarest version of the first press record due to the label variant. The first labels were made with songs credited to Dick James Publishing.
Northern Songs LTD had been created prior to its release and Parlophone was notified about this error immediately but not in time to correct all the labels already out the door and only a few first presses had corrections made.
All second pressings with black and gold labels are credited to Northern Songs LTD.
The typesetter at Patlaphone quickly typed new labels for the remaining first presses and two additional variants were made.
Variant A is rarer than the original “Dick James” with Side 1 attributed to Northern Songs and Side 2 attributed to Dick James.
Variant B (this record) is the rarest of all with both sides having attributions to both Dick James AND Northern Songs!
This is a must have variety for all serious collectors!
The condition is VG/VG+ on the vinyl. The sleeve is VG/VG- as depicted in the photographs.
The sleeve shows age wear and creasing, foxing etc but is fully intact with spine printing clear and no graffiti!
