This is The Beatles' Please Please Me in Mono and is the 1986 red vinyl Japanese release on the EMI Odeon label.
Record: It plays silently and cleanly. Japanese vinyl attracts value because of the general quality approach taken in producing them and this is no exception. There are no marks I can tell on the vinyl (as much as you can with transparent red vinyl!) but, on play through, it is clean and clear. As far as my experience of this record goes, I have began to doubt that it was played at all before I had it (and I take care of my discs). Therefore, as nothing can be mint if it's been unwrapped and played, this is excellent plus to near mint to my mind.
Inner sleeve: The record comes in its original poly semi-circular sleeve which is in excellent shape.
Obi: There were two Japanese mono releases of the Beatles catalogue in the 80's, firstly in 1982 (in line approximately with when the original UK mono albums were re-released in a limited run at that time) and again in 1986 to recognise the 20 year anniversary of the Beatles touring Japan in 1966. The Obi, which is in near perfect and still attached condition, reflects that. It has, at some point, had a corner folded on the rear where it attaches but still fits neatly around the sleeve.
Outer sleeve and companion pieces: The sleeve is certainly EX+ condition. One of two elements that stops my view of this being near mint is that it's 35 years old and, eventually, the white areas just start to show as not quite as white as when new but you have to look closely. Inside, with the record, there is a small form which is possibly an order form of some kind and also a lyric sheet in both Japanese and English (which is reflective of many Japan releases). The other element that stops this being near mint is that, if you look at the lyric sheet, the front page is showing some signs of yellowing a little and, on the back, there is yellowing but which forms a shape not unlike the inner sleeve having been in one position for a very long time with one corner folded. It speaks, perhaps, to how long this LP might have gone unplayed!
I'm selling because I have some duplicates of Beatles records and this was my access point into a vinyl mono Please Please Me in decent condition. There have been no cheap good mono copies of the UK release for a good while and this, as you may imagine, was a great alternative. However, I've since got hold of a UK copy and I only have 1 hi-fi system and set of ears, so this is for sale.
