 Original second pressing released in 1963 on black and gold Parlophone in MONO.

It has the combined mono/stereo info on the back at top right.The Angus McBean

credit appears upside down on the lower back

because of the cover design. The matxix numbers are XEX 421- 1-N/ XEX 422-1-N.

After Please Please Me topped the charts, the Beatles recorded and rushed this album

out almost immediately.They mixed a scattering of originals with an

assemblage of interesting and eclectic influences to create a series of unconventional and

powerful covers. They explored and exploded into show tunes, girl group, great r’n’b and savage

driving rock’n’roll. Had the Beatles a more extensive back catalogue of originals at the time,

it’s more than possible a lot of these covers would not have seen the light of day.

What we have here in reality is an album whose influence has been profound.

In that respect, it is arguably the most important popular album of the sixties and the decade

to come. It begins a process by the Beatles of ripping the lid off musical genres that were thought to have been dead and buried at the end of the previous decade and opened the world’s gaze to a still glittering treasure

trove of musical glories waiting to be explored further by them both here and in subsequent albums eg rockabilly

-and to other artists as well. The fact that the Beatles successfully set this path here suggested to

bands like the Stones,Yardbirds etc they could successfully explore genres such as the blues.

Condition wise- the back cover has a short seam split at centre right and a faded name at top

left (see scan) It has mild ringwear and a little of the colour has come off the lower flap.

Maybe it’s EX-. The labels are EX and the (b) side vinyl looks and plays EX+.

There is a tiny hairline largely between the first and second trax and there are a few little clicks

largely in the deadwax. It's VG+.

All up it looks fine and plays with very little fault.

Early high end copy of a heavyweight giant that changed the face of popular music forever.

MINT: Brand new condition, no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover, label, extras in perfect condition.                                  

EXCELLENT: Slight signs of having been played, no lessening of sound quality. Cover, label, extras are good.                                                                            

VERY GOOD: Played quite a few times, no real deterioration in sound quality. Cover, label, extras slight amount of wear and tear.                                                        

GOOD: Showing some wear and tear. Reasonable, playable sound. No major defects in record, cover, label, extras.                                                                             

FAIR: Sound quality deteriorated. Cover, label, extras display folding, scuffing, marks
