AND A KT TAX CODE STAMP ON THE LABELS  IN THE ORIGINAL WIDE SPINE LAMINATED GARROD & LOFTHOUSE INNER FLIPBACK GATEFOLD COVER. COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL ‘FOOLS INNER’ SLEEVE.  I HAVE TEST PLAYED THE ALBUM TWICE AT HIGH VOLUME BEFORE LISTING AND THE ALBUM PLAYS THROUGHOUT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SKIPS, JUMPS THE AUDIO IS GENERALLY VERY LOUD CLEAR AND VIBRANT WITH SUPERB MONO AUDIO. THE ALBUM DOES PLAY WITH SOME STATIC / DIRT TYPE CRACKLE, TICKS & THE ODD POP (SEE AUDIO DESCRIPTION), DESPITE THIS I STILL FOUND IT A VERY PLAYABLE COPY.

I have been a collector of vinyl for more than 30 years, with a collection of over 2,000 albums, the time has come to part with some of the collection. Over the coming months I will be listing some of the albums I have decided to part with here on ebay as well as on my bluesvinyl4u website, while the majority of my albums are blues related from all eras, there will be a mixed bag to chose from.

‘Sgt. Pepper’s lonely Hearts Club Band’ was The Beatles ninth official album release and was released on 1st June 1967. The Beatles insisted that the album be issued identically worldwide, so for the first time Capitol in America fell into line and didn't split tracks over different L.P.'s (then again, how could they!)

This album sold a quarter of a million copies in Britain in it's first week of release, and by the end of June had topped 500,000 sales. But it didn't sell it's One Millionth copy until April 1973, some 6 years later. The album still appears in the top 20 of most of the World’s top selling albums of all time lists and is the second highest selling album of all time in the UK. It went straight to number 1 and dominated the top slot for the next 23 weeks.

Sgt. Peppers was the first "concept" album, although any link between tracks was tenuous.

The record is the first not to be banded into individual tracks, with hardly any gaps between songs. It was also the first to use the run-out groove, therefore leave the stylus on the record and it would chatter away endlessly.  

The cover has a picture montage (but not the Beatles first - check out "Beatles For Sale") by Peter Blake which contains, 57 photographs, 9 waxwork models loaned from Madam Tussaud's,  A Sgt. Pepper drumskin,  A stone bust,  Four Statuettes,  An Idol,  A doll wearing a jumper emblazoned with "Welcome The Rolling Stones" and "Good Guys",  A portable T.V., A Gold award, A variety of flower arrangements, one spelling "Beatles", and another of a guitar, plus a row of Marijuana plants,  And ... The Beatles.

Other than the waxworks, the other items all came from the personal collections of The Beatles.

The drumskin was painted by a genuine fairground artist, Joe Ephgrave.

THE AUDIO

I have carefully played the album twice before listing at high volume and am pleased to say that it plays through with absolutely no skips, jumps. Generally the audio is absolutely very clear, loud and vibrant with great mono copy.  The album does however play with some static / dirt type crackle ticks and the odd pop. The record is listed as a very collectable album not primarily for its audio, however I found it to be a very playable copy especially as the music comes through loud and vibrant as stated. Obviously with an album of this age a certain amount of static/dirt crackle has to be allowed for.

THE VINYL

 The vinyl is of course the heavy robust early type, and generally very clean considering this is a 43 year old vinyl, there are a few minor scuffs/needle marks.

THE COVER 

This is the very rare original fully laminated inner flipback wide spine Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold cover has no tears or writing and still creaks on opening. The front and rear show some signs of storage to the edges and corners and some areas of laminate creasing. The spine is straight with also only a small amount of storage wear the writing is perfectly clear and legible. The inside spread is very clean with no marks or writing and only showing some creasing down the centre which is quite common with the wide spine cover versions. The cut out sheet is in near mint if not mint condition. The album also come with the original red and white ‘fools inner’ sleeve which is complete without any tears or writing and an average amount of storage and handling wear with some creases and minor marks.

THE LABELS 

The labels are the early press only yellow and black Parlophone, the amount of spidering would show while the record has been played it hasn’t been overplayed.  Labels also feature the early press only ‘Sold In The UK...’ across and ‘The Gramaphone Co...’ around them and is KT stamped on side 1.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
