Description
This is an auction for The Beatles LP- Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Released on Parlophone Records in 1967 and has catalogue number PMC7027. This is the 1st press with the "Gramophone Co Ltd", & "Sold In The Uk" label text. It comes with the G&L laminated G\F sleeve and is Mono.
Condition: G\F sleeve still crackles when opened- slight buffing of mouth and corners and a mere hint of discolouring only- graded at Very Good+. The vinyl does play with some surface noise in a few places- it actualy looks better than it plays with only a few tiny scratches seen. The labels are clean. Vinyl graded at Good+.
Now for what makes this truly unique- On playing this record i discovered that the labels have infact been misapplied and that side 1 actualy plays side 2. Not finding this mispress in Record Collector 2006 i decided to contact them directly ( via ex RC website) and ask their specialist Colin Hayes if it was a common fault and that's why its not mentioned in RC 2006, his reply is below:

I've not heard of an original of this album with the labels reversed in this way. It will certainly have some curiosity value for a collector. The album itself has value of course , but is not too hard to find in itself. The misapplication of the labels will ensure that you will have no trouble finding a buyer , if that's what you want to do , or gaining a fair price in an auction setting. I don't think it will add a huge amount , but expect above book price easily , I would say.

So there you have it a newly discovered mispress as yet undocumented by RC. This has never come up for sale before any where and if this is indeed a truly unique item it will not come up for auction/sale again. To gage the value of this 1st press is truly difficult and to be fair Colin's last sentence above has not helped " i dont think it will add a Huge amount but expect above book price easily, i would say". What is a huge amount and how easily will it beat the book price. The truth of course is that no one knows as this is a first- so no reserve on this as it would be just a guess.
No Beatles collection complete with out it!
