PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WITH DEEP CUT GROOVES WHICH DELIVER ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING AUDIO - CLEAN, SHARP AND FRESH WITH A CRISP LOUD CUT
THE LP HAS THE BLACK/YELLOW PARLOPHONE LABELS WITH "THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD..." RIM TEXT BUT NO "SOLD IN THE UK..." STATEMENT

AND IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL FULLY LAMINATED, INTERNAL FLIPBACK *STEREO* GATEFOLD SLEEVE "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd."
COMPLETE WITH THE EMI ADVERTISING INNER SLEEVE (with "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" and "PATENTS APPLIED FOR" text which lists Motown releases - this copy commonly comes with an EMI Sepia inner but I have no reason to believe that this is not the original inner as issued with the record) AND THE ORIGINAL DARK GREEN CARDBOARD CUT-OUT SHEET ("Printed in England")
THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT DEBATE ABOUT WHICH ORIGINAL MIX IS BETTER - THE MONO OR STEREO (some of the major differences are outlined below) - PERSONALLY I THINK YOU NEED BOTH
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: The mono version has a more prominent guitar towards the end, which is barely audible on the stereo version.
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds: The vocal has a noticeable echo on the mono version, which is not there on the stereo.
She's Leaving Home: The stereo version is slower than the mono.
Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise): On the mono version the audience sounds begin more sharply, the drum intro is 4 beats longer, and there are some words spoken by John and some audience laughter ALL of which are missing from the stereo mix. Paul speaks at the end, but it can barely be heard on the stereo version, and the transition from "Good Morning" is smoother than on the mono
Sgt. Peppers was the first "concept" album, although any link between tracks is pretty tenuous.
The record was the first not to be banded into individual tracks, with hardly any gaps between songs.
It was also the first to use the run-out groove, therefore leave the stylus on the record and it would chatter away endlessly.
The cover too, is the subject of a few firsts:
It was the first to have the lyrics printed on the reverse.
Plus the LP came with a set of Sgt. Pepper cardboard cut-outs, which include, a moustache, a picture card, some sergeant stripes, 2 badges, and a stand-up.
The album sold a quarter of a million copies in Britain in it's first week of release, and by the end of June had topped 500,000 sales. But it didn't sell it's One Millionth copy until April 1973, some 6 years later
LABELS: The labels are clean and unmarked with only a handful of light spindles - EXCELLENT++
VINYL Visual: Both surfaces still retain their original deep, glossy sheen with no dulling and are practically unmarked - beautiful and well cared for record - EXCELLENT++
VINYL Audio: Outstanding STEREO audio delivery on this final Yellow/Black Parlophone pressing with a crystal clear, deep, rich and detailed sound (and a superb loud cut) - very, very impressive indeed and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listings) there are no scratches, no skips/jumps, no prominent surface noise and no loud clicks or pops - the run-ins, track divisions (what there are) are all practically silent and the quieter passages including "She's Leaving Home" all play beautifully and cleanly. The whole LP plays to a very high standard with great clarity, no groove-wear, no distortion, sounds wonderful and is critically graded a conservative EXCELLENT++ for audio - great copy
SLEEVE: The original G&L internal flipback gatefold is crisp, sharp and fresh with no wear to speak of on either the edges or spine - where all text is clear and bold. The outer surfaces have a deep, glass-like glossy sheen but there is a score mark which has cut through the laminate on the front top of the cover (please see close-up photo). The inside is crisp and fresh and unmarked (again, with its original glass-like glossy sheen) and the sleeve still creaks when opened. Overall, a very fine example - EXCELLENT
CUT-OUT: MINT
The EMI advertising inner is clean and unmarked with no splits - just some light creasing - EXCELLENT
