THE BEATLES Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Parlophone Records PMC 7027 (matrix XEX 637-1/XEX 638-1) UK 1967 Stamper codes side 1: 2 and RRL; side 2: 2 and PM; Mono pressing with Fully Laminated Flipback Gatefold Sleeve, comes with Red//White psychedelic inner & Peter Blake insert, ‘KT’ Tax Code label embossing on side 1 label.
George Harrison stated that you haven’t truly heard Sgt. Pepper until you’ve heard it in mono. Mono version is the best way to listen to this historic LP, as it was recorded this way (it was then secondarily mixed for stereo, and lost lots of its original dynamic depth). There’s a presence or intention behind the mono mix that isn’t really there in the stereo, and it affects a hundred little details;
Plays: EXCELLENT, both sides are clear, bright sounding (not bad for a 48 years old record) minimal surface noise, clicks ,crackle; only heard on ‘She’s Leaving Home’ unobtrusive miniscule slight crackle, a couple of clicks near the start of the track. Half a dozen superficial, unobtrusive clicks on, ‘Mr. Kite’ and ‘A Day In The Life’, and unobtrusive series of clicks and crackle on ‘When I’m Sixty-Four’. Very clear vocals on all tracks, no distortion, or wear, sounds as clear as the day it was recorded.
Record: EXCELLENT minus: some surface scratch marks; Parlophone Label, light spindle wear, ‘KT’ embossed in middle of side one label (Tax Code label embossing).
Label:EXCELLENT: A black and yellow logo label with silver text:
"The Gramophone Co." in the radial text and "Sold in the U.K. Subject To Resale Price Conditions, See Price Lists" across label at center, with "Made in Gt. Britain" at foot.
Sleeve: EXCELLENT minus: Laminated Flipback Gatefold Sleeve retains its original glossy sheen, some rubbing to its corners; no tears or stickers.
Spine: VG; wide spine version, some visible shelf wear
Inner Sleeve tiny tear on opening edge, few superficial marks, overall crisp, bright appearance
