Description
THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM, ORIGINAL MONO.
1968 PMC 7067/7068 - APPLE RECORD LABEL.
A UK FIRST EDITION TOP LOADING MONO PRESSING IN ORIGINAL CONDITION, FEATURING A UNIQUE SERIAL NUMBER OF ‘0162971’. THE TEXT ‘AN EMI RECORDING’ APPEARS ON ALL OF THE LABELS.
CONDITION:
MAIN SLEEVE: the double album gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition. The top opening edges are all excellent, the sleeve shows virtually no signs of any handling wear. On the front it has a raised Beatles logo and the unique individual serial Number of 0162971, this number appears very clear and bold. The records are accessed from the top. The spine is in near excellent condition and all the text is readable. The sleeve features visible flipbacks when the sleeve is opened, these flipbacks are all excellent and well stuck down. Due to the sleeves age and is normal for these sleeves, the sleeve does show a little discolouration around the edges of the sleeve.
INNER SLEEVES: both are in very good+ condition and feature the two original BLACK inners, they have NOT been replaced. One of the sleeves have some very small tears to the top edges and Two small tears 5mm around the Die-cut hole. The other sleeve has a little edge wear to the two sides and Two tears 10mm and 20mm around the Die-cut hole.
POSTER: please note, there is NO poster.
PHOTOS: please note that there are only Two photos, one of John and one of Paul. These are made of the original thick card. They have a small amount of cellotape residue on them, but there is NO writing (Biro) or pin hole damage, otherwise they are in excellent condition.
VINYL:
Record One: side One is in near excellent condition, side Two is in very good++ condition,
Record Two: side Three is in very good condition++ and side Four is in excellent condition.
The two records are of the original ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl and are dark and shiny. I have just played this album all the way through on my ‘Dual’ turntable and it sounded amazing, a really strong powerful Mono sound.
The matrix nos. are XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1, XEX 711-1 and XEX 712-1. The Mother/Stampers are: the first side, side One, is unusual as it is ‘ n 3 3 3 1 0 ’ at Nine o’clock and then at Three o’clock its more conventional, being ‘ GMD ’. Then its ‘1 - GR’ for side Two and ‘3 - GGA’ for side Three, and ‘4 - AR’ for side Four.
THE LABELS: are in near excellent condition, featuring the original DARK green Apple colours. ‘An EMI recording’ appears on all four of the labels, all the labels show ‘Sold in the UK’ text etc. The George and Ringo songs are listed as ‘Apple Publishing’.
I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.
Grading System
The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
+ or – : indicates a grading in between categories.
