THE BEATLES – WHITE ALBUM, ORIGINAL MONO.

1968 PMC 7067/7068 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

A UK FIRST EDITION TOP LOADING MONO PRESSING WITH A UNIQUE SERIAL NUMBER OF ‘0101083’.  THE TEXT ‘AN EMI RECORDING’ DOES NOT APPEAR ON ANY OF THE LABELS. 

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  the double album gatefold sleeve is in very good+ condition.  The top opening edges are all very good, the sleeve only shows slight signs of  handling. On the front it has a raised Beatles logo and the unique individual SERIAL Number of 0101083, this number appears clear and bold.  There is no  text printed on the rear of the sleeve proving this to be a genuine MONO sleeve. The records are accessed from the top.  The spine is in very good condition and all the text is readable.  The sleeve features visible flipbacks when the sleeve is opened, these flipbacks are all excellent and well stuck down.  When the sleeve is opened is it very clean and tidy.  There is a small amount of laminated loss  on the sleeves front opening edge (one side only), see photo.

INNER SLEEVES: one is the original black inner and the other is a black  replacement.  The original sleeve I would grade as being in very good condition,  with some edge rubbing to the sides and some small tears to  the top edges.  The other sleeve is a replacement and matches very well, but  doesn’t have the  ‘die cut’ hole  as the original  does, this  sleeve is in excellent condition. 

POSTER: please note, there is NO poster.

PHOTOS: are in very good+ condition, the photo of John has a small amount of blue biro on.  The photos are made of the original thick card.   Otherwise they are very clean with NO cellotape residue or pin hole damage.

VINYL:  

Record One:   side One is in near excellent condition,  side Two is in near excellent condition,

Record Two:  side Three is in near excellent condition and side Four would also have been in near excellent condition but there are Two marks on the playing surface that run from the end of the song Revolution 1, for about 40mm causing a light ‘tick’ when played.

The two records are of the original ‘thick and heavy’ vinyl and are dark and very shiny.  I have just played this album all the way through on my ‘Dual’ turntable and it sounded amazing, a really strong powerful Mono sound. The  audio is very good and  the records lay flat on the turntable and play with NO skips or jumps.

The matrix nos. are XEX 709-1, XEX 710-1, XEX 711-1 and XEX 712-1. The Mother/Stampers are:   ‘ 5 OM’,  ‘7 OL’,  ‘1  RD’ and ‘1  GT’

THE LABELS:  are in near excellent condition, featuring the original DARK green Apple colours.  Proving that these are early pressing, the text  ‘An EMI recording’ DOES NOT  appear  on any of the labels,  all the labels show  ‘Sold in the UK’ text etc.  The George and Ringo songs are listed as  ‘Apple Publishing’.    

I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
