'THE BEATLES'
More commonly referred to as 'The White Album'
UK Original Mono pressing with a low numbered top opening sleeve. Number is 0004709.
Condition:
Sleeve:
This is the important bit with this auction so I will do it first!
The sleeve has suffered discolouration over the years and looks more 'cream' in colour than White but that is true of just about every original copy I have ever seen.
There is some creasing of the laminate and laminate lifting and splitting on the spine. The spine has a laminate split down the middle (the cardboard is still perfectly intact). This was caused by a previous owner opening the gatefold out fully several times.
The number is very clearly visible!
The inside of the gatefold cover has a little discolouring but is very nice.
There are NO rips on this sleeve.
Records:
Record one: -
Side one has a few very light surface marks on it and a couple of TINY scratches which are not immediately noticable even under a bright light.
Play grade: This plays extremely well with some minor crackle in places but no noticable pops and no clicks and definitely no jumps or skips.
Side Two:
Again the record has some very light surface marks and one very light scratch. The scratch did not make any noticeable sound at all when playing.
Play grade:
It really does play extemely well as you would expect from a quality pressing as they were in the UK at the time this was pressed. Minor crackle in places at times.
Overall Condition grade: VG++/EX- (Record collector grade)
Record Two:
Side One:
There are a few light surface marks and a couple of scuff marks as well as a couple of scratches on this side of the record. It's not all bad.
Play grade:
This plays very well with some crackle in the background but there is a click for 5-6 turns of the record at the end of 'Something to hide...', going into the start of Helter Skelter. It does not skip!
Side Two:
There are some light surface marks on this side but no scratches.
Play grade:
Plays very well with just a little background crackle. There are no pops or clicks
Overall Grade of record 2: VG
The posters and Photocards are in excellent condition. NOTE: I am not sure that these were the original ones with this issue but they are the ones that were present when I purchased this record about 15 years ago.
Inner black sleeves are present with a rip round the centr die cut hole on one.
Overall:
This is a rare record, especially with such a low number. It's not mint, or anywhere close, but it is playable and can be enjoyed and you can have the satisfaction of knowing you have one of the first 5000 UK sleeves pressed back in 1968.
