RARE 50th ANNIVERSARY 7” SINGLE
WITHDRAWN-LABEL ERROR
IN 2012, EMI had pressed up and issued the single with the album version by mistake.
Just before the day it was to be released they sent out messages to retailers telling them to return them to EMI. Apple ordered that all recalled stock be destroyed, which would make the single an instant collector’s item.
It’s apparently all due to an error in the manufacturing process where the anniversary single was pressed with the album version of the song featuring Andy White on drums and Ringo Starr relegated to tambourine. The original single version however featured Starr on drums.
A further big mistake on the re-called disc is that not only did EMI mix up the version of the song on the A-side of the disc, they have put the wrong catalogue number on the B-side!
The “Love Me Do” single has the Parlophone Records catalogue number “R-4949”, however, on the B-side of the 50th anniversary reissue (which contains the song “P.S. I Love You”), EMI have printed the catalogue number “R-4714”.
Apart from being the incorrect catalogue number, it was not even a number used to release any Beatles records. The catalogue number was from the Matt Munro single, ‘Portrait Of My Love”

I use the Record Collector Grading system:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler
Overseas buyers please be aware and note that you may be liable to extra charges imposed as an import duty due to changes caused by the U.K. leaving the E.U.
Please consider this before purchasing.. It will be the buyers responsibility to honour this charge, not the seller.
There may also be considerable delay in your delivery if the goods are held in customs within the recipients country for inspection.
