Tell Me This Is a Dream is the fourth album by American soul group The Delfonics, released in 1972 on the Philly Groove label. This album introduced singer Major Harris to the lineup replacing founding member Randy Cain. Lead single "Hey Love", with its innovative and distinctive use of harmony, is often singled out as one of the group's greatest recordings, but the overall album has tended to divide opinion. While some consider it a worthy successor to the group's previous albums, others see a decline

DURING THE LATE 1960'S AND EARLY 1970'S – THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE "SWEET SOUL",  TWO TYPES OF VOCAL BANDS DOMINATED THE AIR WAVES: THOSE WITH HARDER, GRITTIER AND LESS COMMERCIAL SOUND SUCH AS WHATNAUGHTS OR SOUL CHILDREN - AND THOSE WITH THE CHEERFULLY HAPPY, POPPY SOUND, SUCH AS FIFTH DIMENSION ---

THE DELFONICS FALL INTO NEITHER CATEGORY - THEY MANAGED TO PERFECTLY NAVIGATE AND BALANCE BETWEEN THESE TWO EXTREMES, PROVIDING SOME OF THE BIGGEST HITS OF THE 'SWEET SOUL' ERA,, SUCH AS THE TIMELESS "LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU","DIDN'T I BLOW YOUR MIND THIS TIME" AND MANY OTHER MINOR HITS.  (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, JUST A NOTCH BELOW NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 1 (back side)

-        Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine and the top seam

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn (BARELY VISIBLE)
