THE J. GEILS BAND

“HOTLINE”

MEGARARE original Atlantic Records very first STEREO press released in 1975 in Chile by Atlantic Records, made and distributed by Asociación Fonográfica Nacional “ASFONA” M.R. (ASFONA Records), catalog number SD 18147, with hand etched matrix numbers SD-18147-A EB-CD in Side A and SD-18147-A EB-CD in Side B, with traditional red/black Atlantic Records labels. It’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides is written the exact day of pressing: “30-10-75” (October 30th of 1975). Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“HOTLINE” was originally released in September 1975 and we didn’t have to wait much to see this album released here, because it was released in October of 1975 here in Chile and like so many times of the period we got it with an UNIQUE FLIPBACK COVER made of 2 single pieces of thin cardboard with back cover pasted in the flips of front cover. Front and back covers keep strictly the original artwork with all text written in English only, but here in Chile the cover isn’t gimmick, it’s simple, with the ASFONA Records logo at center bottom edge in front cover. Back cover has an UNIQUE BLUE TINTED color, only used here in Chile, it has the text “SERIE ESPECIAL DE LUJO” (Special Deluxe Serie) close to the Atlantic Records logo and catalog number at mouth edge, “EL DISCO ES CULTURA” (The Record Is Culture) text and logo at bottom right corner and the ASFONA Records credits at bottom edge. In labels the album title and tracklist are written in English only, with full credits for songwriters. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from this side of the world!!! An UNIQUE PRESS of “HOTLINE” by The J. Geils Band, with an UNIQUE FLIPBACK COVER and UNIQUE BLUE TINTED BACK COVER!!! WOW!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in G+ or VG- condition, closer to G+, still complete, but with severe wear in all the edges and corners, with creases and little rips, blemishes, obvious ring marks, a light mark of humidity at top left corner of back cover. The most important fact about this cover is that for some reason the back cover wasn’t glued on the flips, it seems that in the factory they glued the flips to the front cover, so they had to keep the cover unglued to can keep the record “inside”. This point is clearly seen because in back cover you don’t see any residues of glue, it’s clear it was never glued to the flips, only a very little section at top edge. The record is in superb VG or VG+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, with loads of scuffs and light hairlines and some soft scratches, which don’t affect play. Labels on both sides are in great EX+ or NM- condition, absolutely clean and clear, no marks, no writings at all, only minimal spindle hole wear, more evident in Side B. The sound is the best part, it’s in strong VG+ or EX- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only some occasional light crackles here and there, more evident in silent parts between songs, which of course don’t cause any distraction. Most of the songs play in absolute EX+ or even NM- condition!!! Overall a still nice record, not for audiophiles or Minty minds if you see the cover condition, but it still keeps in decent shape and the record have a nice glossy look and still amazing sound quality from the beginning to the end after about 44 years, which won’t disappoint anyone!!! WOW!!! An UNIQUE COVER with BLUE TINTED BACK COVER and with date of pressing in the deadwax!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! A RARE PRESS of a famous and classic rock album!!! You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

_________________________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
