THE LEGEND

US late 60s psych band. Formed in Durango, CO, The Lords Of London (some singles in mid-60s) became The Jimerfield Legend (after their frontman Gerry Jimerfield) before shortening their name to The Legend. Hugely popular in the Colorado clubs, they headed to Los Angeles in search of a record deal. In February 1968 they signed with the newly-formed label Megaphone. Despite the chronic lack of money that often forced them to return to Colorado, in fact most of the LP's instrumental parts were recorded by session musicians, the album issued in 1968. Then The Legend were allowed to record their 2nd album without the aid of session men. However, the set would actually be credited to Dragonfly, the result of a front cover painting that featured a dragonfly, bought by the management team from some Sunset Strip street artist. The album was released in October 1968, but by then The Legend/Dragonfly had already broken up after an argument over copyright.

Barry Davis (drums & back vocals)   Gerry Jimerfield (guitar & lead vocals)

Randy Russ (guitar & back vocals)   Ernie McElwaine (keyboards)   Jack Duncan (bass)
