THE N’BETWEENS – You Better Run / Evil Witch Man
ORIG Columbia 45 / DB 8080 (UK, 1966)
WARNING! This record is cracked. It is, however, still playable and sounds pretty good.
The very first commercial UK release for the band that would go on to be Slade. Produced by Kim Fowley, this is a very rare 45. I offer this copy, with defects, to collectors who may wish to fill that gap in the band’s 1960’s output…
The labels are pretty good. NO writing, stickers, residue. ‘KT’ embossed to centre of Side 2.
The vinyl is extensively marked, mainly surface scuffing, some dulling and a hairline crack which extends two-thirds of the way into the playing surface. Also a slight ‘lip’ warp to the run-in area. If you’re looking for mint or EX or above, this is not for you…
It has been carefully listened to and PLAYS THROUGH FINE. That is to say, the crack is there but solidly in place, meaning there is only an inconspicuous tick each time the stylus passes over. Of course, you may not wish to risk an expensive stylus on such a defect but I played it with an old stylus and it does sound pretty good with only low-level surface noise on top of the aforementioned. Or you may not wish to play it at all, just to have that missing title…
