Original Spanish 1st pressing on RCA VICTOR label (3-10533), from 1970. Outstanding, latin funk by a mysterious group. For sure, not Peruvian but most probably a mix of ex pat Americans (think Lafayette Afro Rock Band) with european and South American musicians all living in Spain, at the time. That said, the organ player on this 7inch was actually Rod Mayall (the brother of English blues guitar legend, John Mayall ;) Features a punishing version of the Ramsey Lewis smash, WADE IN THE WATER but totally twisted out of shape into a heavy latin funk theme with killer 1min+ afro latin percussion break (complete with police cum air raid sirens / infectious clave blocks et al). Superb vocals and instrumentation with pumping, psychedelic hammond / heavy drums / dub bassline and funky guitars. Kinda reminds us of Dutch funk group Reality (of Acapulco Gold infamy). Great for DJs. Comped on A Night At The Jazz Rooms by Russ Dewbury for the Mr Bongo label (a selection of club tunes played at the Brighton Jazz rooms). The PROUD MARY side is actually an obscure, psychedelic reggae version of the famous John Fogerty tune. Lovely caribbean soul sound with heavy, mid tempo backbeat. Our Spanish 1st pressing is really hard to find in nice condition as most copies are usually quite trashed. Striking sleeve artwork (front and back) showing the group too. Rare 45!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG bboy b-boy b boy
Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG+ condition with some sections of faint hairlines / light scuffs. Some light surface noises. A couple of soft pops / soft ticks in places (but mostly to the "Proud Mary" side) as you can hear on our soundclip. The textured soft card picture sleeve is in strong VG++ condition overall, regardless of any light wear from storage. Some corner and edge wear in places / ring creasing and a few faint dirt marks. Rare 45!!!
