The Pips: Every Beat Of My Heart/Room In Your Heart UK Top Rank 45 JAR 574 1961
A genuine super rarity from the dawn of 60s soul where it was just emerging from the doo-wop era. This is the teenage Gladys Knight fronting The Pips long before her name was put up front and world success awaited a decade later. The A side is heart rending doo wop ballad the B side breezy soul swing.
I have never seen a UK release of this before let alone one in such wonderful condition. I will call it Excellent but others may rate it higher. The vinyl is bright and shiny with no digs, scuffs or hairlines. The labels retain their colour and have no rips or tears. The Top Rank berth bag has some damage on one side but at almost 60 years old the fact that it and the disc are still together is remarkable in itself.
Gladys Knight has one of the most distinctive and beautiful voices in all modern music. Here is a major find recording her first step along that career path. A wonderful thing it is and a collector's dream.
