THE PRETTY THINGS Original U.S. 1965 stereo pressing on Fontana Records. SRF 67544. VG/M-.
The Pretty Things occupied much the same turf as the early Rolling Stones. In fact lead guitarist Dick Taylor was once the bass player for the Stones before Bill Wyman. Their reputation was even more outrageous than the Stones at first- they were thought to be even dirtier & scruffier, although that image was dispelled with their later LP "S.F. Sorrow"- the first rock opera well beffore "Tommy". But on this first album, their sound is raw & raucous British R&B. Several of these songs are now classics- "Rosalyn", "Don't Bring Me Down" (both covered by David Bowie on "Pinups"), "Honey I Need" & the Bo Diddley song which gave them their name "Pretty Things". But all 12 songs are quite good. In addition to Taylor, the group consisted of Phil May (vocals & harmonica), John Stax (bass), Brian Pendleton (rhythm guitar) & Viv Prince (drums & general mayhem). These tracks were rcorded only in mono & have been electronically reprocessed to simulate stereo sound. This is their only U.S. album to be released by Fontana Records.

Cover has minor shelf-wear, general edge-wear on the top & bottom, a corner "ding" on the upper left & a 1" split seam on the lower right corner but retains its sheen & gloss. Still a presentable copy- graded at VG. Record is near MINT. Side 1 has no scratches or scuffs but there is a small hairline on Side 2, Track 2 that does not affect play. Light blue Fontana labels are MINT (except for a few spindle marks). Sounds great!.
