THE PRETTY THINGS – THE PRETTY THINGS
Extremely rare 2014 test pressing acetate set for the vinyl reissue of the legendary first Pretty Things album.
This is a remarkable Pretty Things collector's item that I received personally from Mark St John, manager of The Pretty Things, in 2014, prior to the release of the Snapper/Madfish vinyl reissue.
The set consists of two one-sided 12" acetate discs:
Disc 1 – Side A
Disc 2 – Side B
The discs have Alchemy Mastering labels with handwritten information, including catalogue number SMALP1014, corresponding to the 2014 Snapper/Madfish reissue of the band's classic first album.
Most importantly, the acetates are accompanied by the original handwritten Post-it note from Mark St John that was supplied to me with the discs.
Mark wrote:
“THE ONLY TEST PRESSING ACETATES OF THE VINYL REISSUE OF THE FIRST PT'S ALBUM TO BE RELEASED ON SNAPPER LATER THIS YEAR.”
This original handwritten note is included in the sale and provides exceptional provenance for the set.
These are not standard commercial pressings and not ordinary white-label promotional copies. They are mastering/test acetate discs produced in advance of the commercial vinyl release.
Both acetates and Mark St John's original handwritten note have remained in my possession since I received them in 2014.
A highly unusual piece of Pretty Things / British R&B / British psychedelia history, and an opportunity to acquire an item that very rarely, if ever, appears on the collectors' market.
