At last, a song that truly says something -- namely, "Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo-hoo!" "Woo-Hoo" was the one and only hit for Richmond, VA's the Rock*A*Teens (in fact, it was the only single the band ever released, though after "Woo-Hoo" hit the Billboard charts, they cut a hard to find album), and you could hardly ask for a better example of the joyous simplicity of teenage rock & roll from the music's first era. "Woo-Hoo" consists of little more than the six Rock*A*Teens bashing out a dirt simple riff while Jess Duboy (one of Richmond's leading rock DJs in 1959) hoots a weirdly fey chant of "Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo-hoo!" over the top. The record sounded like it was recorded in someone's living room, it's hard not to giggle at Duboy's vocal, and one of the guitar solos is little more than a guy strumming two chords as hard as he can for a few bars, but it's impossible to listen to "Woo-hoo" without imagining that everyone involved was having a really great time -- this record sounds like a party, and if it isn't the wildest bash you've ever attended, anyone who bothered to show up has a great time. The Rock*A*Teens called it quits less than a year after "Woo-Hoo" hit its peak in 1959, but their brief legacy has hardly been forgotten, as evidenced by the existence of twangy noise minimalists the Rock*A*Teens.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY MARK DEMING, ALL MUSIC GUIDE  /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

We have absolutely no idea why this rare 1959  Rock & Roll album is not on everyone's list of favorite Rock(abilly) albums. The band sounds like a cross between Johnny and the Hurricanes, Gene Vincent, with Johnny Burnette vocals added. A great , rumbling, raucous, classic Rock experience of the 50's.

Track listing: Woo-Hoo - Doggone it Baby - I'm not afraid -  That's my mama - Dance to the Bop - Story of a woman - Janis will rock - Pagan - Lotta Boppin' - Oh my nerves - I was born to rock .

                                                                                                         CONDITION:

                                                                                                         THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)         The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(d)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has a partially split top seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters)

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY) .

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER
