AUDITION #6110. Train Kept A-Rolling b/w You Better Look Now. Classic two-sider from this Buffalo NY-area teen garage combo. Killer raw feedback & distortion-laden punk blaster take on the Yardbirds b/w folk-rock in the PF Sloan (Grassroots, Turtles, West Coast Pop Art Ex) tradition, as famously covered by Chesterfield Kings. Early Pebbles appearance makes it an essential 45 for the collector. For fans of Nuggets, Back From The Grave etc.
Styrene pressing (as all copies are). It's hard to accurately grade these lower-grade records as the terminology becomes meaningless. VG-? or G? I guess as a visual grade I'll call it G+. But I'd rather describe it. Surface shows obvious wear - medium scratches (many of them!) but nothing deep enough to be felt. Grooves have a noticeable loss of gloss. Labels are as shown. As for play-grade, it's great! Train side plays VG++; You Better Look Now side plays VG+ at least (mainly because it has a quiet, jangly intro, so some very light crackle can be heard). That is typical for this 45, many copies of which have gone through my hands: I've yet to see a NM-looking copy but I've yet to hear a bad-sounding copy, no matter how beat. Well, this one looks semi-beat but plays like a champ. For what it's worth, I do know people who would grade this record (visually) as VG... but I won't go there...
