THE ROLLING STONES, Mona label & sleeve, 1B original UK 1964 Decca mono debut album.

LK 4605, original UK red un boxed mono, grooved Decca labels.

A very early copy of The Rolling Stones UK debut album from 1964, featuring the earliest known sleeve variant and the earliest known record labels. The record features the earliest known, ‘1 B’ ‘mother / stamper. A UK album in original condition, featuring:

1. earliest known printed UK Decca record labels, featuring:

a. side one, track four features the incorrect title of ‘Mona’. This error was soon spotted and quickly corrected to read, ‘I need you baby’,

b. side one, track three, features the earliest known publishing credit of, ‘Cromwell Music’,

c. side two, track four, the writers credit has been mis spelt as, ‘Bozier’. This error was soon spotted and quickly corrected to read, ‘Dozier’. On the rear of the sleeve this credit is spelt correctly !,

d. original UK 1964 red un boxed, ‘Decca’, ‘ridged’ labels, featuring the ‘Roman’ font text labels, ‘inverted’ matrix and the text, ‘recorded first published 1964’,

2. earliest known sleeve, featuring:

a. side one, track four features the incorrect title of ‘Mona’. This error was soon spotted and quickly corrected to read, ‘I need you baby’,

b. on the rear of the sleeve, within the sleeves notes, the track, ‘Can I get a witness’ has been mis spelt as, ‘Can’t I get a witness ’,

c. on the rear of the sleeve, side two, track five, this track appears incorrectly as, ‘You can make it you try’, it should have read, ‘You can make it if you try !’. This error was soon spotted and quickly ‘corrected’,

d. on the rear of the sleeve, within the sleeves notes, the track, ‘You can make it if you try’, appears as, ‘You can make it’,

e. the rear of the sleeve features a ‘twin flip back’ design variant, top and bottom,

3. earliest known ‘mothers’ of, ‘1 / 1’,

4. earliest known ‘mother / stamper’ of, ‘1 B’ on side two, these are the earliest ‘mother/ stampers you can have !,

5. comes with its original period, ‘Decca’ inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good++ condition, the front is laminated. The spine is in very good condition and all of the text is clear to read on the spine. The two opening edges have remained clean for their age, apart from some old ‘sellotape’ residue. The rear of the sleeve features the original, 1960s period twin ‘flip back’, ie fold over edges design, top and bottom. There are NO splits, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. There is a small, discrete name written in blue pen on the front, top edge and a small area of blue pen on the rear, bottom left. As mentioned there is some old ‘sellotape’ residue to three of the four opening edges.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original UK period, mono ‘Decca’ inner sleeve. The two opening edges are in clean, unworn condition. A clean fresh, white and ‘crease’ free inner sleeve. There are NO splits, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. The word ‘Stones’ is written in blue pen to the front, top left.

THE RECORD: side one is in near excellent condition. Side two is in excellent condition. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix are: XARL 6271 2A and XARL 6272 3A,

The mother / stampers are: side one, ‘1 M’, the letters ‘KT’ are also engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove. Side two, ‘1 B’, the earliest you can have, the letters ‘KT’ are also engraved onto the ‘run off’ groove.

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent+ with some light ‘crackle’. Side two plays excellent with some light ‘ticks’ on track one and some light ‘crackle’, the rest of side two plays with some light ‘crackle’. The record plays with a full, loud period mono sound. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: each label is in excellent condition. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.

BEFORE POSTING, THE RECORD IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORDS ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SLEEVES, THE RECORD IS THEN PUT INTO A SECOND PAPER INNER SLEEVE TO MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR WHILE IN TRANSIT. THE RECORD / SLEEVES ARE THEN PUT INTO A NEW PLASTIC SLEEVE FOR FURTHER PROTECTION.
