What a strange career this great Australian punk band had in the Northern hemisphere. They were very very big in the UK when their first singles and first LP "Stranded" came out, it seemed like everybody had that stuff. Then they put out "Eternally Yours" and took all kinds of heat from "punk purists" (yeah that was already a thing by 1978) who thought it was against the moral law for them to include a satiric HORN SECTION on the first cut, which was called "Know Your Product" and was about commercialism, and is the greatest blend of horns and punk guitar sounds I've ever heard. Fast snotty lyrics and a great sense of humor, and their one true classic record.
But guess who had no sense of humor? Yeah, and the purists would have to catch up too, because all kinds of psychedelic and reggae and dub and folk and other influences were just about to wash through punk, which in its pure form was going nowhere. The future was with Clash and Wire and Birthday Party and Bauhaus and all kinds of stuff that got us sanely through the 80's. It wasn't good enough to not know how to play and to sound exactly like Slaughter and the Dogs as you could possibly sound.
So perhaps here is the historic moment an original punk band flung itself into the eclectic. All I know is, it's killer.
