This is one of those groups that has not gotten the respect they are due in part because they were a girl group and the business model at the time was just to release a series of singles as opposed to cohesive albums. Still, that issue aside, the group released a ton of great material between mid 1964 and late 1965. Plenty to have filled out one or two great albums. Leader of the Pack is the closest thing they had to a hit album and it features a few of their better songs, most notably, Remember (Walking in the Sand). Out of all the girl groups the Shangri-Las probably had the most “Rock N’ Roll” image, so it’s not surprising Aerosmith later covered their hit. The biggest asset here is the vocal harmonies, easily some of the strongest of the 60’s. There is something haunting and dark about the choruses that was just not very common with the other girl groups that really set them apart.

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
