THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO - The Velvet Underground & Nico

Original German Stereo LP with U.S. Mono Sleeve

Verve (710 004/V-5008)

Rare original German Stereo pressing on the blue Verve label, housed in the correct U.S. Mono Torso sleeve. The peelable Banana Torso sleeves were shipped to Germany to house their German pressed vinyl. Stickers were put over the sleeve's Mono catalogue number. One is still present on the inside of the gatefold, whereas the one on the rear has been removed as seen in the photos. I have pulled this from my own collection to sell as i nalso have U.S. Mono & UK Stereo pressings, otherwise i just wouldn't sell this copy, but i can't afford to keep all three. Still in decent collectable condition, some wear to the sleeve, but still not bad & the vinyl is in great shape & plays superbly well.

 Matrix:

Side 1) 710004 A

Side 2) 710004 B

The matrix also have several crossed out matrix numbers & "Made in Germany". The sleeve is in vg condition. The Banana has been 95% peeled but stuck back down very well with just one tear at the top. Someone has written something, probably a name, top right which has been mostly removed. The top rear seam has split for 4 inches from the sleeve opening. There is the usual edge/corner/spine wear/rubbing & some light streaking inside of the gatefold. Not a bad sleeve & of course the most sought after of all, a Mono Torso sleeve with intact Banana. Could make a solid replacement for another Mono sleeve.

The labels are in excellent + condition with some very light spindle wear on one side only & just a very few spider marks. The vinyl retains its original sheen with few signs of being played, only some ultra light paper scuffs & a couple of really light lines when viewed under a bright light. When viewed under daylight just the couple of ultra light lines can be seen. I was sold this as Near Mint, which i thought was fair, but i like to be ultra strict with grading, so i'm going with excellent for the vinyl. Certainly hasn't had many plays & only on good equipment by the look of it. Playback on our sensitive set up is very nice indeed.

Still in decent collectable condition. The sleeve has some issues, but no tears or splits & still has an intact banana although peeled & stuck back down. The labels are in nice condition with slight spindle wear on one side only & just a few spider marks. The vinyl retains its original sheen with few signs of being played, at best angled under a very bright light there are some paper scuffs & a couple of ultra light lines.

Please note that this grading has nothing to do with the age of the record, we grade all records the same whether they are 40 years old or 4 days old.

For the last 20 years we have been looking through 100's & even 1,000's of records every week, but we still only pull out a tiny percentage to sell on.

Condition

Sleeve: VG (No bends or ringwear, peeled & stuck back down banana with one tear, some writing partly removed top right, top rear seam split 4 inches from the sleeve opening, edge/corner/spine wear, some streaks on the inside of the gatefold, still a pretty solid example of a rare sleeve variation)    Record: Excellent (still has its original sheen with few signs of being played, No scratches, just some ultra light paper scuffs & a couple of ultra light lines when viewed under a very bright light, playback is great)   Our grading is strict so as not to disappoint, we have been selling on ebay since 1998 & know how important this is. Grading of records is done with the record angled under a 100 Watt bulb. Scans are of actual item up for auction. All records are packed securely & most importantly packed outside of the picture sleeve (in a plain inner sleeve) so as to avoid seam splits during shipping.

Near Mint

Almost mint.Very minor paper scuffs and very little else can appear on the vinyl. This will most likely have occurred during packaging, or removing the record from the inner sleeve but obviously it had been handled with extreme care.Any flaw should be very hard to see. The cover should look as close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and/or age. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) may be acceptable, however the artwork should be as close to perfect as can be.

Excellent

An excellent condition for vinyl will allow minor scuffs (Scuffs lay on top of the grooves) which are visible but only slightly. The wear should be minimal. The play should be close to perfect as well. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear. Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show a little white, meaning slight wear. No seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs.

VG++

As Excellent but with a larger number of scuffs, maybe a couple of hairlines (very light scratch that can't be felt) or a couple of marks. Sound quality should still be very close to that of an Excellent record with only minor crackle in quiet segments only, NO scratches that can be felt. Cover as Excellent but there may be a small seam split on the cover, or a very minimal amount of writing like a name written in small writing or a number. A VG++ record should be an acceptable record to live with if you aren't looking to pay the price of a Near Mint copy.
