THIS IS THE RAREST UNITED KINGDOM VELVET UNDERGROUND LP
EVER RELEASED FOR SALE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. BAR NONE !!!!
This is an original UNITED KINGDOM first pressing of WHITE LIGHT WHITE HEAT by THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. It was released on VERVE records in 1968 so almost 50 years old . As you can see this is the ULTRA RARE MONO VERSION identifiable by the CATALOGUE number VLP 9201 the STEREO version had the CATALOGUE Number SVLP 9201. So VELVET UNDERGROUND UK STOCK FIRST PRESSINGS come no rarer
than this one right here. Its hard enough to find a STEREO first UK pressing of this rarity but I recon you will see a couple of hundred Stereo versions to ever ONE MONO they really are that rare.
The front laminated flip back sleeve shows also known as the scull sleeve due to the scull tattoo on the arm on the front shows ring ware visible in the pictures. There is also slight edge ware and very light corner dings. The back of the sleeve is really clean slight edge ware but no real problems .Double click the pictures and have a look at the spine other than some light laminate cracks the spine is EXCELLENT and all spinal writings can be read clearly. The original poly lined MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN inner sleeve is present and in EXCELLENT condition. The sleeve grades VERY GOOD ++.
Side one of the vinyl does have a lot of hairlines all of which are wispy. There are no marks that you can feel . There are areas of this LP that give slight background noise but nothing too bad and this plays all the way without jumping sticking or skips. The label looks fantastic with very few spindle lines.
Side two its the same story. Both sides do still have luster to them but this is a record that has been played a lot. Having said that the LP plays EXCEPTIONALLY WELL. I think that is down to the fact that it is a very busy album. What I mean by that is there are hardly any quiet points. The music is heavy going all the way. I mean the instrumental break in Sister ray must last 12 minutes and it is a SUPERB carcophony of FEROCIOUS INSANITY. (THANK YOU MR CALE). So any background noise is totally drowned out. And its the same throughout the LP. Marks that may cause serious problems on a quiet album are drowned out totally by the loud fast aggression of the music. So at best it looks VERY GOOD + but it plays WAY BETTER than that. This plays a good 8.5 out of 10. So as a package it grades VERY GOOD ++ . But don`t forget . This is the ULTRA RARE MONO. And that changes EVERYTHING. That is just enough to make this a very special LP indeed !!!
