After releasing 'Tommy' in Mid- 1969 The Who went on a extended world tour to promote it, and returned to England at the end of the year with a desire to relase a live album from the tour. However, the band balked at the prospect of listening to about 80 hours of recordings they had made to decide which would make the best album. It was rumoured that the original tapes shortly after were burnt to prvent bootlegging. So two shows were scheduled, one at the university of Leeds and one at Hull university, for the expressed purpose of recording and releasing a live album. The two shows were performed on the 14th and 15th Febuary 1970 at Leeds and Hull repsectively. The Hull live recording was intially preferred as the recording they would choose as they belied the acoutics projexted better in a more spacious venue. However getting the recording tapes back after the two shows, they found that the bass guitar was not recorded on some of the songs at the Hull show, so the Leeds show recording was chosen as the one to release as a live album.

The original 1970 UK 1st issue Macneill Press mock bootleg gatefold cover with Black text is in VG+ condition, clean, but on the front there is a round circle of sticker residue were oriignal there must of been a price sticker or something similar. There is no unwanted writing, no seam splits, no rips, just a aged and a few light creses ons ome of the corners. The inside is clean, no stains, no rips to the pocket sections. The black text on the outside and inside is clean and fresh. It is rumoured that when designing the cover, the Who band members and a small number of Track records staff were asked if they would like to stamp the black text on the front of the original artwork theirself's. So it could be that, Roger, Keith, Pete or John hand stamped this very covers original artwork before it went to print, AMAZING!.

The vinyl is in EX condition, gleaming with all it's original 'Just Pressed' shine and lustre!, I have played both sides (very very carefully!, with extreme care!)  The vinyl plays EX+, playing with crisp clear clarity!, their is soem very light crackle to be heard, not audioably intrusive, mainly inbetween tracks. Their is some light clicking and popping on ' Shakin' All Over'  this is in the original recording, John Enwhistle's bass cable. I like they kept that in, and the crowd cheers, its live so anything could happen, nice and authentic. The quality of this 1970 1st Press UK Stereo Pressing is TOP TOP QUALITY!, playing with stunning rich tones, warmth and depth!!. The stand out track for me is the lst track on the album 'MAGIC BUS' a fantastic 7.30 minutes rendition of the track, super quality playing and recording, a WONDERFUL PLAYING VINYL!!!!!!

The white with turquiose Track label's (hand written track listing and credits, thought to be in Pete Townsends handwriting)  are in EX+ condition!!!, clean, maintaining all their original bright fresh colour, their is no unwanted writing, the centre spindle hole shows minimal wear!, the label's has some light re-allignment marks, only seen under a bright light. Note Pete Townsend comments to the left hand side of each label, reading ' CRACKLING NOISES O.K DO NOT CORRECT', this is mainly in reference to 'Shakin All over', nice idea!.

The vinyl is housed in it's Track / Polydor original 1970 UK polythene lined inner sleeve and in a VG+ condition!, a little aged and some small bits of staining in soem places, but othe than that clean and their is no unwanted writing, no rips and no seam splits

All the inserts are in EX - EX+++ condition, no rips, no seam splits, the SUPERB POSTER is in EX+++, no rips, no seam splits,  printed on thick high quality paper, lovely original colour, the back is nice and clean as well, with a rough textured feel to it, a nice indentification strait of quality and originality.
