Description
THE WHO - FILLING IN THE GAPS. 2 LP PROMO ONLY.
1981 WARNER BROTHERS, SERIAL PRO-A-944.
Here's something a bit special. This 2 lp set was issued exclusively to American radio programmers, ready to broadcast in advance of the soon to be released "Face Dances" album. It features three exclusive interiews with Pete, Roger and Kenney Jones, and John. The interviews are interspersed with tracks from the (then) forthcoming album. It comes complete with it's original 4 page cue sheet, for the D.J to read from, and still has the original plastic inners which have the "Warner Brothers" logo stamped through them, as shown in the photo's. The rear of the sleeve states "Dear Station, this is your 'Do it Yourself' interview with the Who. All you have to do is add a D.J and I.D's". It credits Trevor Dan for compiling the interviews, and the sleeve design by Vincent Van Rental ! It also states that it's a promotional copy and not for sale. The front of the sleeve is a custom printed "paint by numbers" style, giving the colours you should use to paint it. Thankfully, nobody has. Apart from the interviews, the tracks included are as follows.
SIDE 1 - DON'T LET GO THE COAT ~ DAILY RECORDS ~ YOU BETTER YOU BET.
SIDE 2 - HOW CAN YOU DO IT ALONE.
SIDE 3 - THE QUIET ONE ~ ANOTHER TRICKY DAY.
SIDE 4 - DID YOU STEAL MY MONEY ~ YOU ~ CACHE CACHE.
Now here's the gradings.
THE SLEEVE - Thick card type, unlaminated. showing some minor signs of ageing due to it being matt white. The spine is fully intact with all printing clear and readable. The opening edge is crisp and flat, and the top and bottom edges are solid. Excellent. As I said, it comes with the original inners, which are undamaged, clean and show the Warner logos and the print number in the top left corner.
THE RECORDS - All four sides are glossy, with just a couple of the faintest light scratches, visible only when angled to light. They look unplayed unless you really scrutinise them. The labels are clean, no rips, and like the vinyl you have got to hold them into light to find a couple of the faintest spindle marks, and even then they are difficult to see. Again, excellent. They also clearly show the promotional stamp.
It's a fantastic album for the collector, as it contains one of the very few interviews Kenney Jones did whilst with The Who.
