This is the original UK Red Stamp variation of The Who Live At Leeds Featuring the Earliest #1#1 Matrix ending both sides. This is complete with all inserts present. Absolutely Stunning Top Top Audio Quality No Loud Constant Clicks Or Pops, No Disdtortion Minimal Play Only! The important thing to me is the audio quality and this plays through absolutely superb through out in my opinion , without and loud nasty constant clicks or pops, any interference noted was very isolated and perhapes the odd light static heard in quiet places but that's all. Don't take my word for it , listen to the complete album recorded and can be heard in the player below.   This album is extremely scarce to find with a vinyl that has decent near mint audio, try to find a better sounding copy!   This is complete with the original UK issue brown cover with the 'Red Stamp' Complete with original staples for the pockets to take the inserts and poly lined record sleeve.

Live at Leeds is the first live album by the English rock band The Who.





 It was the only live album that was released while the group were still actively recording and performing with their best known line-up of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. Initially released in the United States on 16 May 1970, by Decca and MCA and the United Kingdom on 23 May 1970, by Track and Polydor, the album has been reissued on several occasions and in several different formats.




Since its initial reception, Live at Leeds has been cited by several music critics as the best live rock recording of all time.





By the end of the 1960s, particularly after releasing Tommy in May 1969, The Who had become cited by many as one of the best live rock acts in the world.



 
According to biographer Chris Charlesworth, "a sixth sense seemed to take over", leading them to "a kind of rock nirvana that most bands can only dream about". The band were rehearsing and touring regularly, and Townshend had settled on using the Gibson SG as his main touring instrument, that allowed him to play faster than other guitars. He began using Hiwatt amplifiers that allowed him to get a variety of tones simply by adjusting the guitar's volume level.





Realising that their live show stood in equal importance to the rock-opera format of Tommy, the group returned to England at the end of 1969 with a desire to release a live album from concerts recorded earlier in the US. However, Townshend balked at the prospect of listening to all the accumulated recordings to decide which would make the best album, and, according to Charlesworth, instructed sound engineer Bob Pridden to burn the tapes. Townshend later confirmed the tapes were indeed burnt in his back garden.




The cover was designed by Beadrall Sutcliffe and resembled that of a bootleg LP of the era, parodying the Rolling Stones' Live'r Than You'll Ever Be. It contains plain brown cardboard with "The Who Live At Leeds" printed on it in plain blue or red block letters as if stamped on with ink some of the earliest originals this stamp is black.




The original cover opened out, gatefold-style, and had a pocket on either side of the interior, with the record in a paper sleeve on one side and 12 facsimiles of various memorabilia on the other, including a photo of the band from the My Generation photoshoot in March 1965, handwritten lyrics to the "Listening to You" chorus from Tommy, the typewritten lyrics to "My Generation", with hand written notes, a receipt for smoke bombs, a rejection letter from EMI, and the early black "Maximum R&B" poster showing Pete Townshend wind-milling his Rickenbacker.




The first 500 copies included a copy of the contract for the Who to play at the Woodstock Festival.




The label was handwritten (reportedly by Townshend), and included instructions to the engineers not to attempt to remove any crackling noise. This is probably a reference to the clicking and popping on the pre-remastered version (notably in "Shakin' All Over") which was from John Entwistle's bass cable.




Modern digital remastering techniques allowed this to be removed, and also allowed some of the worst-affected tracks from the gig to be used.

The Vinyl
This is the original thicker and chunky type slab of vinyl with deeper grooves and are much more robust than later reissued pressings! On initial inspection of the playing surface is superb. This is free of any warping and the vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable. Amazingly I can't see any needle scratches on the playing surface even when angled to the light. Any marks/scuffs that could possibly be seen would be mainly sleeve removal type only. Importantly, there are (no) nasty deep needle scratches that caused any nasty loud constant clicks or pops at all!  This vinyl has obviously barele been played, just a minimal amount of times, certainly not over played at all in my opinion.

The audio quality
I have very carefully played this vinyl track for track at very loud volume on a top system two times prior to listing! As soon as the needle hits the playing surface , it is obvious that this very earliest 1st pressing reproduces absolutely stunning separation and real deep bassey feel only found like this on these very earliest pressings. Even at the very quiet intros the audio is generally lovely and clear, very few light isolated background static is noted in isolated quiet places but nothing too bad in my opinion and I found the album one of the most vibrant copies that I have heard! Note: Light static ticks heard in quiet places only on side 2 to mention. The first thing that hit me was the absolutely stunning audio seperation, vibrancy and the bassey feel.  I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to Near as mint for the most part in my opinion, Please look at my completed listings of albums that I have sold in the past and you will see that I normally get it right! Please note! I always add this disclaimer. I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this vinyl. And I would class myself as highly critical. Please allow for any isolated static/ticks/ isolated pop heard in quieter places (nothing consistent throughout the audio) please remember that this is a genuine 46 year old vinyl, that would have originally been played on a 46 year old system.

The Labels
These feature the original UK issued (Track Polydor) labels!  Very Minimal spider marks can be seen angled to the light, this has obviously just had bare minimal play only. There is no real spindle ware the hole is perfectly round and is very tight on the spindle!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original poly lined paper Sleeve with  just light creasing/staining/fading ware with age amaizingly (no) edge splits This is the original.

The Cover
This is the original UK press un-laminated brown paper cover featuring the Red Stamp on the front. Becoming fragile with age with some browning/fading but in general is intact with original staples that are securely holding the pockets for the inserts. Very minute/tiny tear at the opening edge but not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion. I would grade this cover at least excellent in my opinion.

The Inserts
All twelve inserts are present and still in superb condition, never been put on a wall.
