The full-blown rock opera about a deaf, dumb, and blind boy that launched the band to international superstardom, written almost entirely by Pete Townshend. Hailed as a breakthrough upon its release, its critical standing has diminished somewhat in the ensuing decades because of the occasional pretensions of the concept and because of the insubstantial nature of some of the songs that functioned as little more than devices to advance the rather sketchy plot. Nonetheless, the double album has many excellent songs, including "I'm Free," "Pinball Wizard," "Sensation," "Christmas," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and the dramatic ten-minute instrumental "Underture." Though the album was slightly flawed, Townshend's ability to construct a lengthy conceptual narrative brought new possibilities to rock music. Despite the complexity of the project, he and the Who never lost sight of solid pop melodies, harmonies, and forceful instrumentation, imbuing the material with a suitably powerful grace.

(a)         THE VINYL IS ABSOLUTELY, PERFECTLY MINT,  as if never played before. The original luster is totally intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles like brand new. The labels look perfect, simply gorgeous, with absolutely no trace of wear around the spindle hole. The record is TOTAL PERFECTION - ABSOLUTE VISUAL NIRVANA! We are confident that, in this condition, the record we present here is truly once-in-a-lifetime find. It is hard to describe how unfathomably mint these two records are. The only reason why they were preserved in, essentially, brand new (and very likely unplayed) condition is that either the owner or the distributor decided to package and keep the records in Columbia-styled PVC baggies (which were much more gentle on the vinyl) than in Decca's period (turquoise) paper sleeves which were significantly harsher on the wax. In any event, you won't find a better-preserved copy of this legendary album ever, anywhere. If there is a grade above perfectly mint, we would grade these two records: DIVINE.

(b)         The album comes with the original BOOKLET still intact.

(c)         The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         Mono copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (nothing significant)

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seams (nothing significant)

-       Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)
