Description
TWO (apparently identical) BRUNSWICK RECORDS by AL JOLSON, "The World's Greatest Entertainer."
It's his biggest hit from his follow-up to "The Jazz Singer," the 1928 Vitaphone picture, "The Singing Fool": "THERE'S A RAINBOW 'ROUND MY SHOULDER."
TWO copies - TWO different takes!
On "Take One," toward the end, Jolson exhorts the band as it heads into the finish, "Get HOT!"
On "Take Two," in the same place, he says, "Get hot - and HIT it! NOW!"
There are other telling differences in his delivery between the two performances.
Flip side is "SONNY BOY" - Same take on each, but what with Jolson's lachrymose sobbing and all, one take should be enough for ANYONE. Anyway, Jolie sobbed all the way to the bank behind this one! There's a hilarious story about the creation of "Sonny Boy," which I will tell some other time.
Original 1928 Brunswick 4033, TWO copies: one E and the other E- Yes, it's a common record, but seldom available in "double-takes."
